WIDA PRIME
What is WIDA PRIME

WIDA PRIME is a tool to assist publishers and educators in analyzing their materials for the presence of key components of the WIDA Standards. PRIME stands for Protocol for Review of Instructional Materials for ELLs.
The WIDA PRIME correlation process identifies how the components of the Kindergarten-Grade 12 WIDA English Language Development Standards are represented in instructional materials. These materials may include core and supplemental texts, websites and software (e.g., apps, computer programs), and other ancillary materials.
We continue to support WIDA PRIME V2 for Spanish Language Development materials. PRIME V2 for Spanish language development identifies how the components of the Spanish Language Development (SLD) Standards 2013 edition are represented in instructional materials.
WIDA has a unique perspective on how to conceptualize and use language development standards. We welcome the opportunity to work with both publishers and educators. We hope that in using this inventory, publishers and educators will gain a keener insight into the facets involved in the language development of language learners, both in the U.S. and internationally, as they pertain to products.
The latest news on WIDA PRIME V3: As we review and update PRIME V3, we believe it is important to ensure you have enough time necessary to understand the WIDA ELD Standards Framework, 2020 Edition. WIDA has thus decided that PRIME V3 correlations will not be available nor begin until the summer of 2022. The newer version will have different correlation cutoffs and hence will have to meet a certain standard in order to receive the correlation seal. Educators are still in the awareness-building phase to understand the major components and changes of the 2020 framework. Curriculum alignment follows this stage. Please contact us to learn how we can support your efforts in the meantime.
Please note that WIDA does not endorse any set of instructional materials. WIDA PRIME is not an evaluative tool that judges the effectiveness of published materials using the WIDA Language Development Standards. ELL teachers work with a wide range of needs and in a wide range of environments. For this reason, teachers should consider the information contained in the WIDA PRIME Correlations to determine how particular materials fit in their program.
